You’ve gone through the process of deciding whether to keep, donate, sell or throw away. Now how do you sell all that stuff without the hassle required with a Garage Sale or Craigslist?

​Auctions are a natural extension of our clean-out projects.  They are also great solutions for clients who don't want to host an estate sale on site or who need to sell a lot of stuff within a few weeks.  We use 2 platforms, each offers different advantages.

Online Auctions may be used for just about anything except food and weapons.   Even all those partial bottles of cleaning supplies!

​Fun fact:  Things you can't give away are often purchased in an auction!

How Online Auctions with JMPO work:

We usually partner with MaxSold Online Auctions to create a descriptive photo catalog that is hosted online. 98% of items sell in most auctions!   Auction proceeds can often cover the entire cost of sorting and clearing out the house, although not guaranteed.
Are you concerned about making money from the clear out or about minimizing the costs of clearing out?  Working with JMPO is a great way to cover the costs associated with sorting, assessing and disposing of the contents of a home.  In some cases, the estate will come out on the positive side after an auction.  It all depends on the amount and market value of the items being sold.

Online Auctions ≠ estate sales

Online Auctions are best suited for whole house or estate clear outs. JMPO charges an hourly rate for services ($2700 generally) and MaxSold takes 30% of sales.  We have other auction platform options too.

JMPO will handle the setup and pickup:
  • - Set up includes; auction grouping, lotting, entry and catalog editing, plus management of the auction vendor (MaxSold)
  • - Item pickup includes on-site team support to coordinate buyer pick up of items at your site.

Additional support is available for organizing and separating items to prepare for an auction (pre-sorting, unpacking of any boxed or stored items). 
 
 What are the advantages?
  1. Get true market price for your property, far better than garage sales
  2. An average of 98% of items sell in online auction.
  3. All items are packed and picked up by the buyers at a designated day and time.  The seller does not ship anything!
  4. Limit the time and number of people at the house.  Pickup takes place over 4-6 hours, and only verified buyers enter the premises, escorted, for large items.
  5. Auction can cover much of the cost of a clearout.
  6. Items not sold can be dispersed to local charities, schools or organizations that could best use them. We have a number of services and sites that we have discovered and used over the years. You can access our “where to donate everything” list here:
How does the online auction work?

  • 1. Separate out all items that are not sellable and things you do not want to sell.
  • 2. Group items into numbered lots. This strategic task sets the auction up for success! Furniture and decorative pieces are measured for the catalog. 
  • ​3. Photography and accurate descriptions are created for each lot, then entered into a catalog. 
  • 4. Catalog is locked, auction launched, and all items close on the same evening, 3 days before pickup.   MaxSold and JMPO promote the auction online.
  • 5. Once the catalog is locked, all auction items must stay in place until they are picked up by the buyers. ​
  • 6.  Auction is live for 4-7 days, minimum bids are $1.  All bids are closed on the same night.
  • 7.  3 days after it closes, the winning bidders come to the house to collect their purchases in tightly scheduled pickup, with JMPO supervision. 
​The total process takes 12-15 days total, from setup to pickup.
